A father from Châtelet (Charleroi) was arrested on Wednesday. He is accused of assaulting and torturing his 15 year old daughter. She has been in hospital since he was arrested, La Dernière Heure reported on Saturday. His wife has not been charged. The couple’s three other children have been placed in foster homes. The violence seems to have a radical Islamic context.
The girl was beaten with several different objects and tools, and tortured with a soldering iron and blowtorch. Her plight began when she was only in the third year of primary school. The paper says the victim often had broken bones, which were never treated, and burns over her entire body.
The girl said it was her father who was responsible. He abused her and not the other children. The father “made all the children sleep on mats on the floor so as not to make the Prophets angry. He thought they considered beds an impure luxury”, according to a source close to the case.
