Rolling towards distribution of the mauve bin bags for all plastic packaging

Rolling towards distribution of the mauve bin bags for all plastic packaging
The recycling debate has, once again, rolled around in Wallonia.

Carlo Di Antonio (of the cdH - Christian Democratic Humanists) wishes to spread the “mauve bin bag” concept across the whole of Wallonia from 2019. The bag is for collecting traditional PMC and packaging, both that made of rigid plastic and general plastic. This is reported on Tuesday in the Sudpresse publications.

In Hannut, Marchin and Frameries within Wallonia, the mauve sack makes it possible for residents to add to traditional PMC, rigid plastic packaging (cartons, dishes and jars) and those made of flexible plastic (film, bags and sachets).

As a scheme, it is already being operated.

This project is called “P+MC” (with a focus on plastics and recycling).

Minister Di Antonio envisages extending it to the entire Walloon territory in 2019, having no intention to bin the project!

Mr Di Antonio explains that this approach, “makes it possible to simplify the message around waste sorting, which is currently highly complicated, and to develop new specific options for plastic recycling.”

He goes even further, “My aim is that Fost Plus [responsible for recycling] quickly puts in place a working group to extend the “mauve bin bag” concept across the whole of Wallonia.”

He concludes, “The organisation should do this in the knowledge that the Walloon region will integrate this component into the next discussion on the Fost Plus approval, due to come into force in 2019.”
