Test phase for ecocombis to fire up on January 1st
The request for applications for the pilot test phase of LHVs has been sparked

The test phase for ecocombis, a specific type of longer and heavier vehicle, will be actuated on Wallonia's road network on 1st January 2017. This was indicated by the Minister for Public Works and Road Safety, Maxime Prévot.

Companies interested in involvement in the pilot study should apply, from November 1st, to test these vehicles.

Once the application is validated, pilot projects will be subject to an annual evaluation.

The Walloon government will decide after a maximum eight-year period whether to definitively allow such vehicles to drive on Wallonia's roads.

The Netherlands has successfully allowed such “super-lorries” for several years, and they are also being trialled in Flanders.

In September, an initial report communicated by participating businesses, trialled in the north of the country, recorded a decrease in CO2 emissions of between 21 and 25%.

These “longer and heavier vehicles” (LHVs) may go up to 25.25 mètres in length and weigh 60 tonnes.
