A 19-year-old student of the Free University of Brussels died on Tuesday as a result of an accident last Saturday during underwater training in the swimming pool at the Ceria sports complex in Anderlecht, according to a report in La Dernière Heure daily. On Friday, the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the death and stated that it had declared the matter closed.
Dernieure Heure said two lifeguards had been present at the pool. The family could still ask for an autopsy and file a civil lawsuit, particularly for lack of vigilance.
