The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has accused Belgium today (Wednesday) of being "a significant centre" for the Kurdish terrorist movement the PKK. This is reported by several media outlets including the Reuters News Agency. Erdogan says that it is possible that Belgium may also be at the centre of the Gülenist organisation.
The organisation is suspected by Ankara of having planned an attempted coup this summer.
Speaking with the press before leaving for Pakistan, the Turkish President also attacked Germany. He confirmed having sent Chancellor Angela Merkel thousands of files demonstrating that funds accrued in Germany were destined for the PKK.
Turkish and Kurdish fighters, amongst them the PKK, have been at each other's throats for some thirty years.
The conflict has already cost the lives of 40,000 people.
Ankara considers that the West has not taken sufficient action against the PKK. However, Turkey, the EU, and the United States acknowledge the terrorist nature of the organisation.
