The federal Minister for the Middle Classes, Self-employed, SMEs, Agriculture and Social Integration, Willy Borsus tested as over the legal alcohol limit when breathalysed by the police. This happened between Friday night and Saturday morning, taking place in the Marche-en-Famenne region, Borsus indicated on Sunday to the Belga press agency.
“I drove my own vehicle whilst over the limit,” Borsus acknowledged. He was breathalysed upon coming back from a family reunion, producing a reading of 0.43 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
The legal limit is actually fixed at 0.22 micrograms. In accordance with the legal procedure, his vehicle was brought to a halt at the roadside and the Minister's licence was withdrawn for a period of six hours.
“Someone came to pick us up,” the politician went on.
He concluded, “I entirely acknowledge my error. I wish, in this regard, to express my most sincere regrets and to proffer my apologies for the incident. Of course, I accept that I must suffer any sanctions taken against me as a result.”
