Belgium already has the names of some 15 foreign preachers of hate

For around five months, the Coordinating Organ for Analysis of Terror Threats (known in Belgium as OCAM) has been developing a centralised database of foreign preachers of hate, who have called for violence of this nature. Fifteen of them of have been identified following the government’s publication of a circular on the subject last August.

The Minister for the Interior, Jan Jambon (of the New Flemish Alliance), has stated this in response to a formal question by the Flemish Far right (Vlaams Belang) deputy, Barbara Pas.

This is published today (Friday) in the daily newspaper De Tijd.

These are preachers of hate who are banned from the Schengen Area.

OCAM has also identified in its “joint information box”, a larger databank which the organisation has shared with law enforcement authorities. This includes a series of individuals living in Belgium. Such people could be classified under the “preachers of hate” label.

This action may well lead to these individuals being prohibited from the grant of a visa and thus entry onto Belgian territory.
