The company responsible for managing Belgian railway infrastructure, Infrabel, “regrets the false information reported in respect of points operation”. This follows the train derailment which happened on Saturday in Leuven.
The spokesman, Frédéric Petit stressed today (Monday) “I can formally state that it is technically impossible that the points had moved.”
Infrabel roundly rejected that the points in question had moved. Mr Petit repeated, “This emerges from the points check which had been carried out after the accident. The points were in the correct and normal position.”
The entire railway infrastructure within the affected area had indeed been checked, as part of ongoing maintenance last week. “The check proved that everything was working perfectly fine.”
Infrabel has requested that all “speculation” should cease in order that the investigation currently under way may be concluded, and has also expressed its wish to collaborate fully with this.
