Monthly average of “878 new self-employed” individuals in Belgium
Willy Borsus is pleased with the number of individuals taking the plunge by going self-employed in Belgium.

According to recent figures, dating from the end of the third quarter of 2016, Belgium has 1,050,402 individuals who are self-employed. This is for their supplementary or main income.

Of these 687,249 are men and 363,153 are women.

This was indicated by the Minister for the Self-employed, Willy Borsus (of the MR), to the Sudpresse publications. The latter are publishing this information today (Thursday).

Within the category of “Self-employed for their Main Income”, the figures increased by 18,445 individuals, or 2.66%, over a period of slightly more than eighteen months.

The Minister stresses, “This means that every month there are an average of 878 new self-employed individuals setting up.” In the third quarter of 2016, a monthly average of 1,051 new self-employed individuals set up.

The total social security contributions made during the year 2016 is also now known. Sudpresse is saying that the figure is 4.08 billion euros, or an increase of 3.7%, compared to the year 2015. This is a bonus of 150 millions euros for the state compared to its predictions last June.
