Westminster attack: no impact on Belgian security - threat level maintained

The terror attack in London yesterday (Wednesday) has, so far, caused four deaths and several people have been injured.
The attack does not appear to have any immediate link which would have an impact on Belgium’s security position. This was indicated by Peter Mertens, the spokesman of the Internal Affairs Crisis Centre. This is on the basis of an initial analysis by the Threat Assessment Coordination Body (“OCAM”) carried out using information currently available.

Peter Mertens indicated, “The threat level thus remains at 3 and security measures are being maintained.” As happened after the Orly Airport attack in France, several services were reminded to be vigilant, and that certain measures remain in force.

The spokesperson for the President of the Chamber, Siegfried Bracke, indicated earlier in the day that the federal parliament had not anticipated taking additional measures following the London attack.

In Belgium, after the threat level was increased to 3, the buildings accommodating the Chamber and the Senate were subject to heightened security measures.
