Yesterday (Sunday) around 150,000 tourists went to the Belgian coast, which was absolutely bathed in sunshine. Dirk Marteel from Westtoer (the tourism organisation) said, “It was a super Easter-holiday weekend. The Easter holidays had already got off to a good start in terms of tourist numbers. People love to come here to recharge their batteries.”
Hotels recorded occupancy rates of 80% throughout the weekend. There were a multitude of last-minute reservations.
Marteel went on, “The Belgian Coast is a logical destination to head for that exudes a holiday atmosphere. The prohibition on swimming has not prevented the crowds coming to the seaside. There are all kinds of other things to do once there.”
