Nine out of ten playgrounds rated safe

Nine out of ten playgrounds inspected last year by the FPS Economy have received good ratings in terms of safety. In total, eighty warnings have been issued and three owners have been fined for failing to respond to these warnings, said the Minister of Employment and Consumers, Kris Peeters (CD & V).

In 2016, 751 indoor and outdoor playgrounds were inspected. Inspectors have issued warnings, but have never had to take immediate action on the safety of the premises. However, three owners have been sanctioned for failing to resolve problems identified by the inspection.

"Parents can take their children to the playgrounds without having to worry", commented Kris Peeters, who said that the FPS Economy received 25 reports of accidents in these playgrounds last year. These were mainly due to falls that were unrelated to safety deficiencies.
