Brussels launch of the campaign "Let's draw a better future for the climate"

The launch of the regional awareness campaign entitled "Let's draw a better future for the climate" took place on Monday to encourage the people of Brussels to participate in the overall effort of the region in the fight against climate change. "We are optimistic rather than under pressure", according to the minister Céline Frémault who his competent in this matter, said Brussels Environment in a statement.

The new campaign, based on children's drawings, will be run through posters but also via the Internet and social networks with the launching of a web page and a Facebook page but also by means of the broadcasting of clips in the Brussels cinemas. A broadcast in television and radio will follow in the coming months, the statement said.

A drawing contest has also been launched between students from all Brussels schools to select the three schools that will participate in the filming of the next video clips, added Brussels Environment. The winners will have the opportunity to reproduce their drawings in very large format on the Brussels pedestrian zone during an event at the end of June.

The Brussels government is committed to reducing regional greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025 and to almost doubling the region's renewable energy production by increasing it by 2% to 4% between 2013 and 2020. These efforts are part of the implementation of the "burden sharing" agreement which shares the efforts imposed on Belgium between the federal and regional departments by the European Union and its "energy-climate package".
