The Tihange 2 nuclear reactor will be started again on the 19th of May

The Tihange 2 nuclear reactor, which was shut down for scheduled maintenance on the 1st of April, should be started up again on the 19th of May. This is what the Engie Electrabel spokesman told the Belga agency on Saturday. The original plan was to start it up again on the 12th of May.

Like Doel 3, which was started up again in December last year, Tihange 2 was shut down temporarily so hydrogen flakes on the tanks could be examined. The Federal Nuclear Control Agency (AFCN) did not object to Tihange 2 being started up again after the ultrasound inspection results were analysed last year.

Tihange 1, shut down in September because of a civil engineering incident, is expected to be started up again on the 31st of May.
