Some 220,000 tourists are travelling to the coast to enjoy the sun and the waves on this year's Ascension Day, according to Westtoer, the West Flanders Tourism Board. The occupancy rate of hotels is 95%. The sector expects half a million people by Sunday. All hotels are almost fully booked, the occupancy rate ranging between 90% and 95% over the three days.
Four seaside resorts currently allow swimming. These include Koksijde, Le Coq, Knokke-Heist and Blankenberge.
