Over 700 manual tradespeople gain official status in the space of a year
Registration at the Banque-Carrefour des Entreprises enables manual tradespeople to gain official status.

Using its legal definition, in barely a year a total of 732 skilled workers have obtained the official status of manual tradespeople. These resulted from a total of 1,141 applications. This was indicated by the Minister for the Middle Class, SMEs, Self-employed and Agriculture, Willy Borsus, today (Thursday).

The law defines a manual trade as an individual or a legal entity who is active within production, a given change process relating to objects, or the repair and restoration of given objects.

The legal definition also covers the performance of services, the activities of which are mainly manual, have a genuine character or are developing a given know-how focused upon quality, tradition, creation or innovation.

This form of recognition is only possible for manual tradespeople registered at the Banque-Carrefour des Entreprises (a business registry) as a commercial business, craft firm or a non-commercial business governed by private law, undertaking one or more activities.

This definition only applies to businesses with less than twenty workers. The manual tradesperson with such recognition is free to use an official logo designed by the relevant public authorities, in communications with the general public.
