The SNCB and Infrabel will soon be able to give out administrative fines. On Friday, the Minister's Council gave the green light to a proposed bill from Mobility Minister François Bellot, which will make the current procedure easier.
At the moment, to be able to punish certain behaviours such as travelling without a ticket, walking on the track or bothering other passengers, the two companies have to go through a long and expensive procedure. This procedure often requires lawyers or bailiffs.
Other certified agents, like conductors or Securail employees, will be able to hand out administrative fines, as well as the railway police. A royal decree will make it official.
Some offences only require an administrative fine, others can warrant an administrative fine and court proceedings. The administrative fines will be divided into four categories, 50, 100, 250 and 300 euros.
