Record number of special trains for summer festivals

The SNCB chartered no less than 71 additional trains to facilitate the summer festivals, a new record, the railway company announced on Monday. Festival-goers can once again count on the dance floor and DJ's "party train" for a festive trip.

With Rock Werchter, Couleur Café, Les Ardentes, Esperanzah and more, the SNCB collaborates every year with the major summer festivals to improve its offers. The objective is to enable young people to reach the places "quickly, without traffic jams and car parking problems, but especially safely". Tickets are offered at a bargain rate or free of charge, according to a press release on Monday.

The "party train" will be the party for the third consecutive year. In these special trains, two cars are transformed into real dance floors with a bar and a DJ. This year, the music will be tailored to the style of the festival.

The first train of its kind will leave from Antwerp Central Station on 15 June to the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel. The following party trainers will join Rock Werchter on June 28, Les Ardentes on July 8, Dour on July 12, and Pukkelpop on August 16.

Last year, SNCB provided 55 additional trains to passengers. In total, 171,000 people had chosen the train to go to festivals.

All information on the respective festival rates is available on the SNCB website or through the company's app.
