The prevention and support service for young parents in precarious situations, "Le Petit Vélo Jaune" (EN: The Little Yellow Bicycle), is one of the three organisations awarded at the awards ceremony of the federal prize for the fight against poverty. The event, which was held on Friday morning in Saint- Gilles (Brussels) in the presence of Queen Mathilde, included the "Théâtre des Travaux et des Jours" (EN: Theatre of Work and Days) and "Rimo Limburg", which were also among the nine nominees of this ninth edition of the event.

The Federal Poverty Reduction Prize recognizes the efforts of individuals, associations, enterprises or public administrations that combat poverty on a daily basis by devising useful and original solutions.

The Brussels winner of the 2017 award is the association "Le Petit Vélo Jaune" of Watermael-Boitsfort, which currently assists 38 families in need thanks to 38 volunteers.

For Wallonia, the "Théâtre des Travaux et des Jours" in Durbuy was chosen as the winner. It contributed to the socio-professional integration of two people suffering from psychiatric problems through cultural creation for four years.

In Flanders, the price went to "Rimo Limburg" of Heusden-Zolder, which took advantage of a neighborhood development project to train disadvantaged residents to become welders. These three winners will each receive a sum of 12,500 euros.

"Poverty has many faces and affects an ever wider and more diverse audience", commented SPP President of Social Integration, Julien Van Geertsom. "There are, however, a great many people who fight against such conditions without ever giving up. The number of cases submitted is proof of this.
