OECD: Belgium is a "top reformer"

The Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), José Angel Gurria Trevino, congratulated the efforts made by Belgium to implement its recommendations on Tuesday. "Belgium is a top reformer", he told a press conference with Prime Minister Charles Michel.

Mr Gurria Trevino highlighted the reforms undertaken, in particular with regard to pensions and taxation, in order to reduce the levies on labour.

"You are following the recommendations", he added, focusing not only on legislative work but also on the practical implementation of the reforms.

However, the OECD notes several weaknesses, e.g.  in terms of public investment. The organisation points out, among other things, the congestion of the country and encourages Belgium to invest in its transport infrastructure. It therefore welcomes the Strategic Investment Pact initiated by the Prime Minister.
