Federal Public Prosecutor wishes to make visits to jihadist websites a criminal offence
Leeuw wonders whether we should go further than current legislation and include, as illegal, consulting jihadist sites disseminating violent images.

De Standaard is reporting today that after the failed attack at Brussels Central Station, the Federal Public Prosecutor, Frédéric Van Leeuw, is arguing that visiting jihadist websites should be made a criminal offence. Leeuw stresses that, “Belgium forbids visiting sites circulating child abuse images.” He wonders whether we should go further and include, as illegal, consulting jihadist sites disseminating violent images.

He goes on, “In some cases, it often happens that a given suspect has retained a picture of a beheading on his GSM. Why keep such images? Furthermore, why would anyone look on the Internet for the recipe to make a bomb? Without placing restraints upon freedom of expression, we must prohibit possession, or as a minimum prohibit deliberate research, of jihadist propaganda.”
