Foreign Ministry urges tourists to be careful in Spain

Belgium’s Foreign Ministry on Friday called on Belgians in Spain to be extra careful following the terror attacks perpetrated in Barcelona and Cambrils, Catalonia, on Thursday evening and night. In an advisory posted on its website, the Ministry urged Belgians to “conform strictly to the instructions of the local authorities”, stressing that “highly frequented areas can be targets for attacks”.

Belgium’s embassy in Madrid and consulate in Barcelona are in contact with Belgian victims of the attacks and the Spanish authorities, the Ministry added.

Thirteen people, including one Belgian, lost their lives in the attacks; two other Belgians were wounded, one of them gravely.

The Foreign Ministry’s crisis centre can be contacted on 02/501.81.11.
