Belgium to be equipped with army of 200 cyber-experts
Steven Vandeput has announced that the military intelligence services are having a recruitment drive for cyber-experts.

Around thirty job offers have appeared since the beginning of the year at the headquarters of the CSOC (the Cyber Security Operations Center) in Evere. This is within the remit of the military intelligence services. The latter are permitted to hire 92 colleagues, the majority of which will swell the ranks of cyber-experts at the CSOC. Eventually, there will be 200 specialists in cybercrime employed. This was stated on Tuesday by the Minister of Defence, Steven Vandeput (New Flemish Alliance), in De Tijd and L'Echo.

Belgium thus anticipates being better armed against cyberattacks. The priority mission of cyber-experts will be to protect military targets, such as armament and communications systems. However, as Belgium’s pillars in fighting cybercrime, they will also be called upon to supply help in the event of incidents of this type in spheres other than the strictly military sphere. The Ministry of Defence will also be given the means to counter cyberattacks.
