Son of fireman employed by the city suspected of killing Mouscron mayor

The individual suspected of killing the mayor of Mouscron, Alfred Gadenne, on Sunday evening is reportedly the son of a volunteer fireman who worked at the Population Service of Mouscron’s city council, the Belgian news agency, Belga, learned on Tuesday from multiple sources. The suspect’s father had committed suicide after being dismissed two years ago. His son is said to have killed the mayor to avenge the death of his father.

The suspect was scheduled to be questioned by an investigating judge on Tuesday.

Aged 71, Alfred Gadenne opened and closed, each day, the area’s cemetery, located opposite his home in Luingne. He died there a little before 8 p.m. on Monday, after his throat was cut. His body was transferred on Monday night to a hospital in Mons, where an autopsy was performed.
