A police officer in the Brussels North police zone was made subject to an arrest warrant. The relevant offences he is accused of are breach of professional confidentiality and bribery. Information in La Dernière Heure, which was also published on Thursday in Het Laatste Nieuws, says that he is suspected of having disclosed confidential information to individuals involved in a terrorism case.
The police officer in question, a former STIB employee, worked within Dispatching in the Brussels-North police zone (Schaerbeek-Evere-Saint-Josse). He has been subject to a Comité P investigation for several weeks.
An investigating judge, specialising in terrorism cases, came in person to arrest the man on Monday and carried out a search in the wake of this.
The man was placed in a cell in the Saint-Gilles prison, and he will have to appear before the Brussels Court in Chambers either at the end of this week, or even the beginning of next week – on Monday at the latest.
