Police officers suspected of using people’s data to register on betting sites

The Gambling Commission has launched an investigation into around thirty Antwerp police officers. They are suspected of using betting sites during their shifts. Police officers are banned from betting or gambling, the Mediahuis papers said on Saturday.

The story came to light when regular payments to an online casino were found on a suspended officer’s bank statements. We now know that this officer accessed these websites using the Antwerp police network. He also used national registration numbers on the police database to sign up.

The police department’s management notified the Gambling Commission. The Commission found around a dozen betting site accounts had been created via the Antwerp police computer network. A list of around thirty officers suspected of doing the same has been drawn up.
