Journalist succeeds in penetrating largest arms depot in Belgium
The ease with which Faroek Özgüne got into the proof house raises security issues, particularly given the current climate.

The VTM journalist, Faroek Özgünes, was able to enter the proof house for firearms in Liège unhindered. The depot in particular contained Kalashnikovs and automatic weapons of war. The TV channel sees it as demonstrating the lack of security in the most significant arms depot in the country.

The proof house has around 10,000 weapons, including shotguns, light weapons, Kalashnikovs and automatic weapons of war. This is also the only body in Belgium for testing weapons, whether produced in the country or imported. The proof house for firearms remains responsible for the destruction of prohibited or seized weapons.

Faroek Özgünes states that he was able to penetrate the establishment in a visitor capacity. The journalist stated, “Nobody asked who we were or why we were there. At no point were we recorded and we were able to leave the premises as we had entered, entirely anonymously.”  He went on, “This raises the question, within the context of the current level 3 terrorist threat as to the security procedures at the arms depot.”
