Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises Belgians in Jerusalem to avoid demonstrations
Belgians in Jerusalem, whether for travel or other reasons, are being advised to stay away from all demonstrations following the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The Belgian Ministry for Foreign Affairs has slightly adapted its travel advice for Israel, after the American President Donald Trump has acknowledged Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Belgians present in Jerusalem are advised to stay out of the way of demonstrations which have been, or may be, held.

The Ministry’s website clearly states in French, “Unrest may break out in Jerusalem, on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip from December 6th, 2017.” It goes on, “Indeed, calls for demonstrations have been issued, from Wednesday December 6th. It is appropriate to remain clear of these demonstrations and crowd gatherings.”

Even before the American President’s historic decision, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs was already recommending travellers exercise great care owing to the heightened tensions in Israel, on the West Bank and in Jerusalem. Moreover, all visits to the Gaza Strip were strictly not recommended.
