The agricultural sector criticises the diversity of political measures

The agricultural sector called for more cooperation between Federal and regional authorities during the closing phases of the Agribex salon on Sunday. Farmers say “the diversity of the measures is a very limiting factor”.

Agribex, the biggest sectoral salon in Benelux, happens every two years. This year’s, the 70th Agribex salon, started on Tuesday. There were more than 100,000 visitors, a slight drop compared to 2015.

On Sunday, the event’s President Johan Colpaert, called for measures to make farming more profitable. “The legislation needs to be clear and there needs to be a unique point of contact. Diversity creates uncertainty in a sector that is already at the mercy of changing factors such as climate, price changes and natural phenomenon”.

Farmers are calling for legislation to be unified so everyone works under the same conditions. “This is the only way our sector can make an impact on the supranational policy at European level”, Mr Colpaert says.
