The King gives speech at the Royal Palace
The King's New Year speech very much placed the emphasis upon the current economic recovery and job creation.

On Thursday, King Philippe declared in a speech his desire for the largest number of people possible to benefit from Belgium’s return to economic growth. This came in his New Year speech to the Belgian authorities, traditionally made at the Royal Palace in Brussels. It is an opportunity to offer his best wishes for the new year. The Head of State also stressed the importance of diversity and democracy for the country’s stability.

The King considered, “At a time when both Belgium and Europe are resuming more vigorous economic growth, it is also essential that nobody is left standing.” The King took the opportunity to invite business people to better ensure that job vacancies come together with job applications.

He said, “We are all attached to what we can each harvest, fairly, in terms of the fruits of this economic recovery. In this regard, it is important to create a better balance between supply and demand on the employment market. We can only rise to this challenge by a joint effort between all players: businesses, educators and indeed jobseekers.”
