Gluten has been detected in the composition of Tortilla Chips Nature Bio (organic Tortilla crisps) and Tortilla Chips Chili Bio (organic chilli Tortilla crisps), both made by Delhaize. The announcement was made by the supermarket chain on Tuesday. The chain is therefore asking that all customers allergic to gluten do not consume the product, and simply bring it back to the point of sale where they originally bought it. Customers are guaranteed a refund in respect of both of these items. The company Snack Food Poco Loco has also detected gluten in tortilla chips made by the brand Acapulco, without reference to gluten appearing on the label.

Delhaize has withdrawn these products from the shelves. The chain is putting people’s minds at rest saying that the other items from the “Tortilla Chips Delhaize” range are unaffected and may be safely consumed. The group has also apologised for the inconvenience caused. For further information, consumers can contact the Delhaize Customer Service Department on the toll-free number 0800/95.713 or by e-mail at serviceclients@delhaize.be.

Moreover, as alluded to above. the company Snack Food Poco Loco also detected gluten in organic tortilla chips, without the allergen being mentioned on the label. The relevant Acapulco tortilla chips are paprika (batch number 37332) and chilli and sea salt (batch number 37331) flavours. The product had been distributed through the points of sale Colruyt Meilleurs Prix, Bio-Planet, OKay and EXKi. Consumers allergic to gluten are also asked not to consume the products, and to return them to the relevant point of sale. Consumption of the products by those able to eat gluten-containing products does not pose any health risk.
