The owner of Eurowings, Thorsten Dirks, told workers at Brussels Airlines on Wednesday that their company will not become a Belgian carbon copy of Ryanair in the future. Following a special works committee meeting at the airline’s head office, he thus promised that the airline would play a “decisive role” in the future of Eurowings Group, a point supported by his slide presentation to staff during a general meeting.
The German CEO announced that although Brussels is due to become a centre of expertise for long-haul flights, Eurowings will not, for the moment, carry out such flights.
Brussels Airlines and the German company will henceforth together create Eurowings Group. It further emerged from his presentation to the staff that the Belgian company is a “key element for our success” as an airline group, and will play “a decisive role” in the group’s future.
Both entities have fairly similar product offerings for the present time, having “high-quality products for every budget.” Thorsten Dirks had a press conference at the end of the morning, in which he provided further explanation for the media as to his plans for Brussels Airlines.
