CGSLB announces strike for Monday at STIB

No agreement was reached at Friday morning’s meeting between the General Confederation of Liberal Trade Unions of Belgium, CGSLB, and the management of the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company, STIB, prompting the federation to organize internal awareness-building actions later Friday and to call a strike for Monday, CGSLB Permanent Secretary Stephan De Muelenaere said. The General Public Service Federation of Belgium, CGSP, had already served STIB with strike notice effective Monday.

The third trade union federation, CSE, will not take part in the strike.

Discussions with the STIB management focussed on operational problems that create a “negative social climate” at the public transport company, according to the CGSLB. The CGSP, for its part, feels that taxpayers’ money is being wasted.

"Management heard our demands but did not respond,” De Muelenaere said. “It wants to remain in a logic of problem resolution over time whereas we want firm commitments and actions with immediate effect.

An earlier meeting between management and union, on Wednesday, had also not yielded any result.
