Brussels Citizens who spot persons who are in danger in public spaces, particularly during the current severe cold period, may report them by calling the Samusocial emergency dispatching green number, 0800/99.340. The association will send a cruiser on location to offer a lodging solution, reminded Monday Brussels ministers in charge of aid to persons, Céline Fremault (cdH) and Pascal Smet (sp.a).
According to the two ministers, the places prepared in the capital for emergency accommodation are not saturated. Beds for all types (families, isolated men and women) are available.
Last Friday, 170 additional places (70 isolated, 50 families, plus 25 mixed) were opened for night shelter, in order to ensure that nobody remains on the street or is refused entrance. These 170 places top the 1,300 already available as part of the Winter Plan.
Families with children can also have access to shelters that are open 24 hours a day.
During the day, isolated persons can go to shelters where the number of available places — 250 in all — in day centers, has been reinforced in view of this winter period. They will find warm meals, health care, toilet facilities, warm clothes and a specific social accompaniment.
Information can be obtained on the day centers at 02/880.86.89, where a map of all of the services is also available.
Mrs. Fremault and Mr. Smet have specified that they will remain vigilant on any complementary measures to be taken day by day.
