Belgian Competition Authority approve 50% buyout of Mediafin by Roularta

The Belgian Competition Authority College (“ABC”) on Tuesday authorized the acquisition of joint control of Mediafin by the Roularta Media Group and Rossel & Cie. ABC indicated this approval on Wednesday in a communiqué.

The College considered, “The merger does not risk causing a significant restriction upon competition within the markets affected.”

The media group, Roularta, announced its intention in October to acquire 50% of Mediafin shares (which belonged to De Persgroep), the other 50% being owned by Rossel & Cie. Mediafin publishes the newspapers L'Écho and De Tijd.

Roularta has also sold its interest in Medialaan (which owns VTM, Q2, Vitaya, CAZ, Qmusic, JOE, Mobile Vikings and other media and communications subsidiaries) to its previous joint shareholder, De Persgroep.
