Veviba – The N-VA wants a thorough inquiry after the revelations about a Flemish abattoir

The N-VA wants a “thorough judicial inquiry” after the revelation that a Flemish abattoir also sent expired meat to Kosovo. “We don’t know a lot about what happened at the company yet: whether it was human error or fraud, there needs to be a thorough inquiry”, MP Yoleen Van Camp and Renate Hufkens said in a joint press release on Saturday evening.

The MPs, who are on the Public Health Commission, are also looking into how AFSCA handled the new case. The agency has to “take its role seriously”, checks have to “more proactive, quicker and more decisive”, they said. There is “an urgent need for better communication between the different authorities involved, but also towards the consumer”, the N-VA MPs added.

They are calling for inspection services to be regionalised. “Flanders has already proven it has done good work with regards to animal welfare checks”, say Yoleen Van Camp and Renate Hufkens.
