No additional train cancelled by Thalys and Eurostar

No additional train has been cancelled by Thalys and Eurostar on Tuesday due to the strike by French railway unions against President Emmanuel Macron’s reform plan. The adapted transport plan, which includes a few cancellations both at Thalys and Eurostar is being implemented well, the two railway companies state.

As planned, the Thalys Brussels-Paris train leaving the Brussels-Midi station at 8.43 a.m. was cancelled and, in the other direction, the Thalys train leaving Paris-Nord at 6.49 a.m. did not run, while the 5.49 p.m. train is also cancelled.  Amsterdam-Lille trains will not run beyond Brussels.

At Eurostar, the five trains whose cancellation had been announced are, in fact, not working on Tuesday. These are Brussels-London (departing at 8.52 a.m., 10.56 a.m. and 5.56 p.m.) and London-Brussels (8.54 a.m. and 12.58 p.m.). The remaining 15 trains are not affected.

The disruptions are more significant on the classic cross-border lines.

The Belgian railway company, SNCB/NMBS, announced major disruptions between Tournai and Lille. “Since early this morning, four trains out of the six that normally run between Tournai and Lille have been cancelled. On the other hand, no train has been cancelled between Mouscron and Lille. We advise people travelling to Lille Flandres to transit through the Mouscron station”, said SNCB/NMBS spokesman Dimitri Temmerman, who expects disruptions throughout the day.

Unions representing workers at the French railway company, SNCF, on Tuesday began a strike on two out of five days that is scheduled to last until June, giving a total of 36 days of strike action.
