Izy, the low-cost offer from Thalys between Brussels and Paris, has attracted 800,000 passengers since its launch in April 2016. The announcement came on Tuesday from Thalys, speaking of the success of this formula.

Agnès Ogier, CEO of Thalys, quoted in a communiqué, welcomes the result, “The success of our low-cost Izy offer, for which we are celebrating the second anniversary today, is also the success of the relationship between Paris and Brussels. With 800,000 passengers carried in two years, Izy’s gamble has paid off, faced with competition on the route for which the carbon footprint is up to eight times higher.”

Izy specifically targets the “leisure” clientele offering an average journey time of 2 hours and 15 minutes between Brussels and Paris, compared to 1 hour 22 minutes by Thalys. When the launch of Izy, which took place on April 3rd, 2016, was originally announced, Thalys had spoken of banking on 450,000 passengers by the end of 2016. In 2017, Thalys as a group carried 7.2 million passengers (up 7% compared to 2016) with a turnover of €509 million (up by 11%).
