Royal Mint issues commemorative coin for 50th anniversary of May 1968

Belgium’s Royal Mint is issuing a commemorative two-euro coin for the 50th anniversary of May 1968. The monetary institution wishes in this way to pay homage to the student revolt that erupted 50 years ago in Paris and whose shock waves were also felt in Belgium. The coin is being officially presented today, Thursday, the Mint said in a press release.

On one side, the coin shows two students holding a flag and a pamphlet in front of an auditorium, the trademark of Utrecht, the city where the commemorative coin was minted, the seal of the Master of the Mint, the country code, “BE”, the year, “2018” and a reference to May 1968.

On the other side it bears a schematic representation of the member states of the euro zone with the 12 stars and the inscription “2 euros”.

The commemorative coin has a maximum circulation of 257,500, the monetary institution notes.

It is available only on the piecescommemoratives.be website at the price of 10 euros and will be delivered to homes from early June.
