A 1914 tram returned to the Brussels Tram Museum on Wednesday after being restored in France over a period of one year. It will circulate regularly on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays on the Chausse de Tervuren (Tervuren Road) during the summer vacation and in September.
The tram, bearing the number 1348, was built in the Nivelles Metal Workshops and has been conserved since 1963. The Brussels inter-communal transport company, STIB, restored it in 1975 and reintegrated it into its fleet of historic trams. It was identically restored in 1990 but had to be restored once more after all these years.
Thanks to a regional subsidy, the tram underwent one year of maintenance at Artrail, a French company in Nancy.
The Brussels Tram Museum has a large collection of old trams, buses, taxis, service vehicles and various objects illustrating the history of public transport, from the beginning to the construction of the subway.
