Family in Pont-à-Celles suffers a fourth house fire

Jumet fire-fighters were called to a fire at a house in Pont-à-Celles (Hainaut) at around 6.30pm on Saturday. This is the fourth time there has been a fire at the house in the last week. The family that lives there says all the fires were started intentionally. Two other houses were also damaged.

The house belongs to letting agency Les Jardins de Wallonie. A couple are currently living there with their two children. Early Saturday evening, they heard a strange noise behind their house. When they went to check it out, they found some rubbish had been set on fire. They went back inside and heard another noise. They then realised the first floor Sawas on fire too.

The family managed to get out safe and sound and fire-fighters got to work putting the flames out. The first floor and attic were completely destroyed. The ground floor was damaged by the water used to put out the fire. The two neighbouring houses were also damaged.

Three fires were started at the same house last weekend. The father of the resident family has reported these incidents to the police. Their courtyard adjoins a Cité de l'Enfance building, which was also damaged.

Brunehaut police attended the scene to gather evidence.
