Walloon motorists are much less convinced section speed cameras have a positive impact on road safety than their Flemish counterparts. This is according to a Mobility poll published by the Flemish traffic organisation VAB on Sunday. Only 49% of Walloon motorists think these cameras are the best way to do speed checks, compared to 75% of Flemish people.
During the poll, VAB asked 2,000 Belgians about section speed cameras. It turns out just 1 in 2 Walloon motorists (46%) think putting section speed cameras on motorways was a good idea. Flemish motorists are much more in favour of them (75%).
4 in 10 Walloon motorists (39%) think section speed cameras have a positive impact on road safety and traffic flow. They think traffic is smoother so there are fewer traffic jams. 55% of Flemish motorists mentioned the positive impact on traffic flow.
1 in 3 Walloon motorists think section speed cameras have a positive impact on local roads. 35% think they are useful and 30% think they make roads safer for cyclists, according to the VAB.
