The dual between Brazil and Belgium, in their World Cup 2018 quarter final match, kicks off at 8 p.m. in Kazan. It is certainly a game worthy of the final itself, when you take the best attack squad in the world (the Red Devils) and the best defence (Brazil). The Belgians are placing, as indeed are many, the Brazilians as the favourites to win. So is Roberto Martinez.

Belgium’s national coach, himself from Spain, explained, “Of course Brazil is the favourite. The two teams are fairly well matched as regards talent and player qualities, but the difference is very clear.”

He went on, “We have never won the World Cup. Approaching an event of this magnitude with the know-how to win the World Cup makes an enormous difference. It is one less barrier - indeed very significant. Of course we want to win though. We are not endorsing the Brazilians’ status as favourites, but Brazil is the favourite to win - that is the simple truth.”
