About 1000 suitcases waiting to be picked up at Brussels Airport

About 1,000 suitcases were still waiting to be picked up by their owners on Monday morning at Brussels Airport, following a three-hour breakdown on one of the luggage carousels on Saturday that disrupted operations there, airport authorities announced. “There were 2,000 to 3,000 suitcases that needed to be transported, but we resolved most of the backlog on Sunday," said Brussels Airport spokesperson Nathalie Pierard.

Of the 1,000 suitcases left, “about 70 percent could be taken to their destinations on Monday,” she said.

There would then be some 300 suitcases left at the airport on Tuesday morning.

Since Saturday’s problem has been fixed, there should be no more concerns for travellers flying on Monday. Passengers still waiting for their suitcases have been asked to contact their respective airlines.
