The US carmaker Ford is recalling thousands of cars in Belgium and Luxembourg due to problems with the vehicles’ clutch. The recall is part of a Europe-wide recall of cars sold to consumers between 2009 and 2016.
In Luxembourg and Belgium, the US carmaker is recalling 12,284 vehicles. Because the carmaker views both countries as a single market, the figures aren’t broken down between the two countries.
The car models concerned include Focus, C-MAX, Connect, Kuga, Mondeo, Galaxy and S-MAX, cars with a 1,0-, 1,5- or 1,6-litre EcoBoost petrol motor and a manual transmission with six gears.
The clutch in some of these cars may start to slip, which can influence the speed and riding performance of the cars. In a worst-case scenario, the faulty clutches may cause the pressure plate to break down, which in turn can cause it to catch fire, but no such incidents have been reported until now.
Ford vehicle owners will be contacted by the car dealership where they purchased their vehicle. If a software update fails to solve the malfunction, their vehicle clutch will be replaced free of charge.
