The Belgian Youth Olympic Games delegation to be made up of 30 athletes in Buenos Aires
For Van Looy the experience of the Youth Olympic Games is important for youngsters taking part.

Belgium can count upon the presence of 30 athletes during the Youth Olympic Games which will take place from October 6th to 18th October in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On Tuesday the Head of the Belgian delegation, Gert Van Looy, stated, “This is an essential event for them.”

After Singapore (2010) and Nankin (2014), Buenos Aires will now host the third summer Youth Olympic Games. A sports event which brings together no less than 4,000 athletes aged between 15 and 18 and from 206 countries. Belgium will gain fame in 18 different sports during the event. The Belgian delegation will definitely be known by the end of August.

Van Looy went on, “During the Youth Olympic Games, our athletes come into contact with youngsters their own age and from different countries. The event enables them to experience Olympic values and also a period in the Olympic village. However, taking part in this event is no guarantee of a professional career in sport. The frontier between the two worlds is still significant.”

The Belgian delegation will fly out on October 1st from Brussels Airport in Zaventem.
