Terrorist threat - Charles Michel says security services have prevented numerous attacks

Belgian security services have prevented numerous attacks, Charles Michel said during an interview with La Dernière Heure on Saturday. However, he added that the threat to Belgium still exists, even though the threat level has dropped to 2 after having remained at 3 for months.

The Prime Minister said the threat has changed since the time of the attacks, when authorities were up against structured organisations. “Today, we are dealing with isolated individuals who becomes radicalised all on their own”, he said. He assured the public that the security services are still on constant alert.

Charles Michel told the paper how magistrates have dealt with dozens of terrorist cases and have convicted dozens of people. “Every conviction prevents potentially serious incidents. Our security services have definitely prevented numerous attacks”.
