Disappearance of a Belgian in Louisiana - husband arrested seven years later

The husband of Sylviane Finck, a Belgian teacher who disappeared in the US in 2011, has been arrested in Mexico. The story was reported by several American newspapers on Saturday. Oscar Lozada, 43, is suspected of murdering his wife in Baton Rouge. He has been transferred to the Eagle Pass detention centre in Texas.

Originally from Verviers, Sylviane Finck worked at Brusly High School as a French and Spanish teacher. She disappeared on the 5th of July 2011. Her husband took their daughter and fled to Venezuela after her disappearance.

The couple’s daughter, now 11, is with a foster family. Although the father and daughter have been found, Sylviane Finck’s body has not been.
