On Tuesday, the European Parliament announced that it had suspended the head of its Greece Liaison Office and two of his assistants. The suspension is part of an investigation conducted by the EU Anti-fraud Office (known as “OLAF”).

The Parliament’s Assistant Spokeswoman, Marjorie van den Broeke, explained, “The budgetary control within the Liaison Office led to questions being asked as to the legality of certain transactions. The European Parliament has conducted an internal investigation, and believed it necessary to refer the case to OLAF.”

She stated, “OLAF has opened an official investigation and the European Parliament has suspended these three individuals.” No indication has been provided as to the nature and amount of the transactions which are being investigated.
