Are you pregnant? CSS recommends flu vaccine from the first 12 weeks
Pregnant women fall within “at-risk” populations, for whom the CSS is recommending vaccination against the flu virus.

The Senior Health Council (CSS) has changed its recommendations for the flu vaccination for pregnant women. They are now encouraged to receive the injection from the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The revised information is published in Het Nieuwsblad and the Sudpresse publications on Wednesday.

Pregnant women fall within “at-risk” populations, for whom the CSS is recommending vaccination against the flu virus.

They run a greater risk of complications, such as pneumonia. Pierre Van Damme, a specialist in vaccination at the University of Antwerp, explains to Het Nieuwsblad, “As with any kind of fever, such a lung infection is dangerous for both the mother and the foetus.”

He goes on, “In the USA, pregnant women are vaccinated for longer, even during the first 12 weeks, without any problems.”
